7. Hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is a colorless liquid chemical that can be purchased at a drugstore.
There are many uses for hydrogen peroxide, most notably: It is used as a mouthwash, and it helps relieve minor mouth irritation, such as gingivitis and cold sores, and it also helps whiten teeth.
It should be noted that because of its ability to kill bacteria, hydrogen peroxide has been used for years to disinfect wounds.
The following is how to use hydrogen peroxide for “teeth whitening”:
- Three times a day, combine one tablespoon of baking soda and one-half tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide with one cup of cold water.
Important note: Although no studies have been conducted to examine the effects of rinsing or brushing with hydrogen peroxide alone, several studies have been conducted to examine commercial toothpaste that contains peroxide. According to one study, using toothpaste containing baking soda and 1% hydrogen peroxide resulted in significantly whiter teeth.
